Incredibly, another school year has come to the end! Hard work has certainly paid off here at Daiches Elementary! Our students have shown tremendous growth, both physically, socially, and academically! It is time to celebrate the accomplishments of our school and its students! We have had many moments of celebrations this year, including wonder-filled field trips for all our students, from our local Planetarium to the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Center to the University of Texas and our state capitol in Austin to the Natural Bridge Caverns, the Alamo, and so many more places! Our Early Childhood students enjoyed a great variety of activities not only during Week of the Young Child, but throughout the school year! We had members of our community such as Mayor Saenz, Sheriff Cuellar, and Judge Palomo visit our school and read books to our students! These have offered memorable experiences to so many of our students who will not soon forget the great time with their classmates and teachers this school year.
The end of the school year is also a time to acknowledge our committed faculty. Our teachers and assistants have devoted countless hours to planning appropriate lessons and activities to ensure their students’ success! It is because of them that our students are shining today! We began the year with the end in mind: 80% IN ALL AREAS! We embraced “We love the 80’s” theme throughout our school. Students knew what we were expecting of them from the get-go! They understood that we were not settling for anything less than an 80 in every single subject, test, and assignment. With teachers and support staff driving home this year’s lofty goals, our students shined and had a remarkable year! This would not have been possible without our committed and enthusiastic faculty and staff who work tirelessly to provide a quality education for our children. “Thank you!” is not enough for all they consistently give to the students of this community!
Leon Daiches is a very special place where a sense of pride is rising to new levels! Commitment to the success of our community is evident in everything we do! You feel it as you enter the front door of our school. Great customer service is what we pledge to provide every visitor, every day! As our students have pride for their school and themselves, so does our staff! Our progress and our desire for continuous school improvement is because of our students! We continue to put our students first!
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all of our families and volunteers for their dedication, time, energy, prayers, generosity and support of our efforts throughout the school year. We could not have done it without you. “Thank you” for partnering with us in the education of our children.
So, to all of our students, teachers and parents, I would like to say “Thank you” for another amazing school year. To my spectacular Assistant Principal, Mrs. Cathy DeLeon, Support Staff, Office Staff, Nurse’s office, Custodial Staff, Cafeteria Personnel, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your hard work and dedication to our school! Parents, I ask you to commit to continuing providing more learning experiences and opportunities during the summer months for your children! Take them to the Library, the Aquarium, the Zoo, so that they can read, read, and read more, allowing them to soak up knowledge that will help them succeed! School resumes in August where more great things will happen at Daiches Elementary School in 2016-2017!
As this year winds down, we honor a teacher who has devoted all her teaching career to the students of Daiches Elementary! Mrs. Alicia Cantu will be retiring after 43 years with the Laredo Independent School District! Having taught several grade levels throughout her career, she will be leaving us as a wonderful, caring, 3rd Grade Language Arts teacher. Her Daiches family wishes her a blessed retirement, enjoying her family and friends!
Another retiree this year is Ms. Rosa Ramos, retiring after dedicating 23 years to the service of our students! Ms. Ramos served Daiches Elementary in various capacities including PE and ECC Teacher Assistant. Her Daiches family wishes her much happiness in the next episode of her life!
Both of these ladies saw several generations of children go through Daiches, many of whom are now successful members of our community, parents, and a few grandparents themselves! We thank them both for all their years of devotion to the children of Daiches Elementary School! Finally, also entering into retirement is one of our Cafeteria ladies, Maria Dolores Ramirez. She served our students for 4 years here at Daiches but a grand total of 27 years with our school district! Another lady from the cafeteria leaving us for other adventures is Ms. Dora Reyes! She has dedicated 10 years of service for LISD! We wish all of them a wonderful Next Chapter!
We also bid FAREWELL! to two of our terrific Staff members! Ms. Tanya Jacobson, our CEI Lab Manager did a fantastic job helping our students succeed through small group instruction. She was also an energetic and caring PE assistant, and the fabulous leader of our campus beautification committee, always doing outstanding work, everywhere she was asked to help! She will be moving to San Antonio where she will be a brand new teacher for SAISD! Her students will be so blessed to get her as their new teacher next year! Her Daiches family is proud of her and we all wish her much success in her new career!
Our Parent Liaison, Ms. Jacqueline Murie, is the face our parents would first see when they walked into our campus the last two and a half years! She had a cheery disposition, always courteous and helpful, blending extremely well with our office staff! She worked above and beyond to help parents become more involved and more informed about their children’s education! She provided lots of pertinent information and guidance for our parents, always representing Daiches in a stellar manner! Ms. Murie is off to continue her education, pursuing a degree in Biochemistry! We wish her the very best in her career! We wish all these ladies a great new chapter in their lives and they will all be greatly missed but will always be proud Daiches Eagles!
Our district’s motto this year was “TOGETHER, WE WILL”. I am humbled yet thrilled to say, “TOGETHER, WE DID!” We reached new goals! We made a difference in many children’s lives! We committed to hard work and it paid off!
May God bless all our students, parents, faculty, staff, and community members always! My best wishes for a safe, restful and fun-filled summer vacation and we will resume classes Monday, August 22, 2016, our first day of school! Special “Thanks!” to our Campus Tech Trainer, Mr. Javier Munoz for helping our website look great!
With much gratitude and Eagle Pride,
Lisa P. Soto,
